Ask Us Anything
What is my cup made of?
The cup is made of food grade 18/8 steel (304 grade), which is widely recognised as the top material choice for drinkware. The additions of chromium (18%) and nickel (8%) give the steel a combination of strength, durability and rust resistance. The interior of the cup has been electropolished to provide additional corrosion resistance and a super easy-to-clean finish.
It is 100% free from BPA, lead, phthalates and other harmful toxins, and totally dishwasher safe.
How do I clean my cup?
Things get pretty gross at a festival, that's part of the charm. Your MedoCup can just be rinsed out with water between uses, so if you do manage to track down warm water or even a little soap, you can save it for yourself.
For that thorough post-festival clean, you can pop your cup straight in the dishwasher.
Is drinking out of steel safe? Is it BPA free?
Yes! Our cups are a safe and healthy alternative to plastic or paper. 18/8 food-grade stainless steel is totally safe, toxin-free, and BPA-free.
Can I put hot drinks in my cup?
You do you, but it's not for the faint hearted. The steel cup conducts heat and gets hot to touch. Be careful.
Can I wash my lanyard?
Sure. It's not quite as sturdy as your forever cup but it is designed to survive festival life, and the dirt that comes with it. If you're feeling up to it, wash it with warm soapy water to ensure it lasts as long as possible. If not, throw it in the washing machine with similar colours on a cold cycle.
Will you release other colours?
We have so many jazzy colours and prints in mind. Keep checking our site, or sign up to our newsletter to be kept in the loop.
What is the benefit of BYO festival cup?
Many and varied but our top three are:
1. It's the easiest way to put a stop to the 100 million single use plastic cups coming from outdoor events in the UK every year.
2. Stainless steel is a dream. Your drink will stay colder for longer, which means it tastes better.
3. They look great.
What are the sustainability features?
- It's not a plastic cup.
- It's not a disposable cup.
- It'll be with you for life (keep it safely around your neck to make sure this comes true).
- The lanyard is made of 100% recycled PET – which means we're removing existing plastic from the system.
- Packaging is made of 100% recycled paper and is recyclable.
Despite this, there's a lot more that we can do to make your MedoCup even more sustainable. We have big dreams, including working with our supply chain and ensuring that we are supporting the transition to the circular economy more so than we are now.
Bear with us as we grow and continue to build this in every step of the way.
What about disposable paper cups?
It’s true, paper degrades much faster than plastic. But the most common types of cups used for drinks use a combination of paper and plastic to prevent them from quickly deteriorating, and this makes them difficult to recycle.
This means we’re still making and using a whole lot of cups, using a whole lot of resources to do so, and we're relying on (often ineffective) recycling systems to keep these materials in the system.
And what about recycling?
Even when we have the best of intentions and recycle, a large proportion still ends up in landfill, burned, or sent abroad to meet the same fate; or worst of all, it ends up in our oceans. In fact, only 9% of all plastic generated in the last 60 years has been recycled.
The world doesn't have the recycling systems in place to deal with current levels of waste. We need to stop waste at the source.
